The following is a list of websites and books in the AIPH Library to help answer your financial aid questions and search for scholarships and other financing options.

  


Use the websites below to find answers to financial aid questions and search for scholarship information.

  

Federal Student Aid - http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/index.jsp

The official website for Federal Student Aid. Includes information about applying for and repaying loans. Also includes links to the FAFSA online and the new Income Based Repayment plan calculator.

 

FastWeb - http://www.fastweb.com/

FastWeb includes a search engine which requires you to fill out a profile as the first step in the search process. Information about jobs and internships is also included.

  

Mach25 - http://www.collegenet.com/mach25/app

A Scholarship database from College Net containing over 600,000 awards. You can create a profile and Mach25 will tell you which scholarships you qualify for, or you can search by keyword for scholarships.

  

Sallie Mae's Online Scholarship Service - http://www.salliemae.com/before_college/students_plan/free_money/scholarships/

scholarships.htm

This portion of Sallie Mae's website not only allows you to search for scholarships, but also provides tips on your scholarship applications, essays, how to avoid scholarship scams.

  

Scholarship News - http://www.free-4u.com/

A comprehensive information service on scholarships, including a discussion board, chat room, and search engine which allows searching according to college major, state, and minority status. Students can also search separately for religion, fraternity / sorority, athletic, and special scholarship. Registration is required.

  

U.S. News Online - http://www.usnews.com/sections/education/paying-for-college-students/

The scholarship search engine is maintained by U.S. News Online. Students can search for scholarships by name or look for ethnic, art, corporate and organizational scholarships. Students may also personalize a search of the whole database. Financial Aid 101, a financial aid glossary, and information about paying for college expenses beyond tuition are also provided.

  


Use the following books, all found in the reference section of the library, to look for financial aid and scholarship information. More scholarship information can be found in the reference section; this is just a sample of what's available.

 

 

              College Board.Getting Financial Aid. 3rd ed. New York: The College Board, 2008. Print.

Reference: LB2337.2 .C54 2008

This how-to guide from the College Board gives explainations for common financial aid terms, "financial aid pictures" for over 3000 schools, and advice for working through college and gaining funding beyond your financial aid package. Detailed FAFSA information is also provided.

 

 

              Tanabe, Gen, and Kelly Tanabe. 1001 Ways to Pay for College: Practical Strategies to Make College Affordable For High School, College, Graduate and Adult Students. 2nd ed. Los Altos, Calif.: SuperCollege, LLC, 2005. Print. 

Reference: LB2337.4 .T36 2005

This book provides information and tips, 1001 of them in fact, on how to afford college. Suggestions range from putting yourself on a budget or running a business out of your dorm room to looking into your state's loan forgiveness programs. Information about how to avoid scholarship scams is also provided.

In addition to giving information about scholarships based on location (legal residency and place of study) this large book also gives extensive information about federal and national programs such as AmeriCorps. Scholarships based on special recipients (military status, minorities, etc.) are also indexed.

Scholarships gives all of the important information about over 3000 scholarships. Multiple indexes make it easy to look for scholarships based on your major, state of residence, by funding organization and more. Tips on scholarship applications and special instructions for international students are also included. We have multiple years' volumes of this title.
